Cut the yarn and close the hole by passing the ends through the front loops of the final row with a needle, tighten and tie off. Pass the remaining ends through the inside of the broom and cut off any extra.
Now form the bend of the handle by bending it at the three points shown in the photograph below.

Take the gold yarn and crochet into the front loop only of the 30th row for 16sc while holding the broom with the handle down. Finish by closing the row with a slip stitch. Cut and fasten your end. Do the same for row 33.
Next, stitch in the front loops only of row 35, 16sc plus 1 extra sc. Do this for 2 more rows of 17sc. Do not cut the yarn. TN: for clarity further down, these will be rows A, B, and C, with A being the one that connects to row 35.
Insert your hook into the first stitch of Row C and chain 10. Beginning in the second chain from the hook, crochet 9sc.
Insert your hook into the second stitch of row C, chain 10. Crochet 9sc starting in the second chain from the hook. Insert hook back into the second stitch of row c and fasten off, passing the yarn through the interior of your broom with a needle and cutting off any extra.
